Election Trap

Here in Israel, we are seeing idealistic and optimistic Egyptians being interviewed by Israeli reporters at demonstrations in Cairo. I couldn't understand why those inspiring and pro-democracy interviews seemed both familiar and sad.And then it hit me. 1984. The barrier between Israel and Lebanon had been replaced by a "Good Fence" gate. Lebanese citizens flooded into Israel. We saw idealistic and optimistic Lebanese being interviewed by Israeli reporters. We were all thrilled with the prospects for peace and real change. But I remember one depressing interview. A Lebanese schoolteacher said that he was visiting Israel while it was "still" possible to do so.

The "Good Fence" - 1984
The Good Fence is now a barrier between Israel and the forces of Hezbollah, the Islamist Iranian puppet in Lebanon.

In 1984, the IDF had just spent two years wrecking the southern half of Lebanon, with at least five thousand civilian fatalities in the siege of Beirut alone, according to mainstream Israeli sources. Do you appreciate how massively unrepresentative of the average Lebanese the collaborationist types you saw interviewed were?
Anyway, after the 2000 withdrawal most of the SLA quislings fled into Israel proper, so if you like them so much, good news! they're all yours now. Enjoy.

We must write these kids a history book. We've been here so long.
I got a kick (wrong word) out of the jukstaposition of the "peaceful" comments and the injuries reported and today BBC filmed a journalist car being "rocked" in more ways than one from the inside.
Well, I am so excited that I have found this in your post because I have been searching for some information about it almost three hours.
Funny, I was watching Israel Channel 2 (via the WWW) and two people interviewed stated (1) Mubarak must go and (2) Israael is rthe enemy. I also saw posters of Mubarak with a mogan david marked on his forehead. Despite 30-plus years of quiet ("peace" is probably not accurate) on the border, there still is a great deal of mistrust (best) and hate (worst) on both sides of the line. Pray for peace, but keep the weapons handy.
Another "good" to the Good Fence was the medical treatment received by Lebanese citizens in Israeli hospitals.
The interviews in the Israeli Press were also rife with "bibi cannot sleep now" and "we have no dignity after Camp David." It's consistently amazing how protests against a dictator (who might very well deserve to be overthrown - considering how his population lives) then turns into something anti-every-thing. Not sure who's feeding this people thier rhetoric, but they sound like having peace with Israel is undignified. Seems they're letting us know what makes a "real man" in the arab world - Hatred.
All of this is caused by the ignorant and backwark nature of arabs.
But the saddest of all is that with the Muslim Brotherhood in power, there will not be any democracy!
Nobodyinparticular the SLA were not quislings.
The fact is, Lebanon is a Christian country - or atleast, should be.
It was the homeland of the fierce Maronites who were resisting, with limited aid from the Byzantines, & engaging in a guerrilla war against Islamic invaders from 650 to 690 AD - long before any Israel state.
The SLA were not quislings. They represented the true Lebanon.
The real quislings are the Christians who sided with Hezbollah & other Islamic factions against Israel.
The real betrayers are the Israeli forces who withdrew overnight, abandoning their Christian comrades to the foreign bastards in charge of Lebanon.
Everyone else who is not a Maronite in Lebanon (except for any dying Jewish minorities) are foreigners, streaming in from Syria or Palestine, unable to see a country where Christians are not oppressed.
Pardon me while I SCREAM for a moment or two. "Suicide Bombers" are anything but "Suicide Bombers." THEY ARE HOMICIDE BOMBERS.
IF THEY COULD KILL INNOCENT PEOPLE WITHOUT KILLING THEMSELVES, THEY WOULD. WAIT A SECOND--THE TECHNOLOGY IS THERE TO DO SO, BUT THEIR DREAM IT TO HAVE 21 VIRGIN SHEEP WHEN THEY GET TO MARTYRVILLE.
LET'S STOP CALLING THEM SUICIDE BOMBERS WHEN THEY ARE HOMICIDE bombers.
To anonymous a week or so ago, anyone can lie...and they do.

You took the words right out of my mouth, to quote Mr. Meatloaf. Rush Limbaugh always calls them homicide bombers & I have written to other pro Israel talk show hosts & writers about the other phrase. It is like calling the bombs "rockets". You know rockets...those things we used to set off on the 4th of July in America..harmless,right? But BOMBS...that conjures up a totally different picture. Use words correctly. Do not allow the MSM to get into your head, folks. Words mean things.
