Hitler in Hell

Hitler hell the devil and Nazi Boycott Divest Sanctions : Dry Bones cartoon.
It all began with boycotts. Boycotts that were taken to defend against an imaginary Jewish threat. For info about the Nazi BDS program I turned to the History Place to track events of 1933:

Nazi Boycott .
Above: Nazi Propaganda Minister Joseph Goebbels delivers a speech to a crowd in the Berlin Lustgarten urging Germans to boycott Jewish-owned businesses. He defends the boycott as a legitimate response to the anti-German "atrocity propaganda" being spread abroad by "international Jewry."

Below: Nazi storm troopers block the entrance to a Jewish-owned store. Their signs read: "Germans, defend yourselves against the Jewish atrocity propaganda, buy only at German shops!" and "Germans, defend yourselves, buy only at German shops!"

Nazi Boycott .

On April 1, 1933, a week after Hitler became dictator of Germany, he ordered a boycott of Jewish shops, banks, offices and department stores. But the boycott was mostly ignored by German shoppers and was called off after three days. However, the unsuccessful boycott was followed by a rapid series of laws which robbed the Jews of many rights.

On April 7, "The Law of the Restoration of the Civil Service" was introduced which made 'Aryanism' a necessary requirement in order to hold a civil service position. All Jews holding such positions were dismissed or forced into retirement.

On April 22, Jews were prohibited from serving as patent lawyers and from serving as doctors in state-run insurance institutions.

On April 25, a law against the overcrowding of German schools placed severe limits on the number of young Jews allowed to enroll in public schools. -more

And it all began with the supposed victims fighting back with what they claimed was a legitimate response ...an anti-Jewish boycott to "defend" against the Jewish "threat".

The board of the Olympia Co-op has voted to boycott all Israeli products. A Co-op in Gig Harbor has done the same. There have been meeting, marches etc. to try and stop this nonsence. Many of the Olympia Jewish community are members but the board was able to act without informing the memebership first.

Thank you, DryBones, for this cartoon, I almost thought I was the only one drawing that parallel.
I am working on this project, dealing with synagogues in Germany, that were destroyed by the Nazis and I keep reading about what happened to the congregations in the early years of their reign. OMG, it is scary to see the similarities in manipulation techniques that the Nazis were using, and that influential leaders are using today.

David, I love the first sentence you wrote.
I like to think that today we are in a better position, having our own state and realizing that together we have a better chance of defending ourselves, then scattered around in the diaspora. Also the media is not entirely controlled by authorities, so we must all do our share and blog, talk-back, etc.

This is very distressing. It is a horrible thing from the past that I hope is not a harbinger for the furtue.

Here's a little known fact. Guess what happened on March 24, 1933 BEFORE the Nazis called for a boycott of the Jewish goods on April 1, 1933?

"Most people are not aware that in March, 1933, long before Hitler became the undisputed leader of Germany and began restricting the rights of German Jews, the American Jewish Congress announced a massive protest at Madison Square Garden and called for an American boycott of German goods."

As a Berlin-born Jew, I dislike being called a Berliner, I remember the boycott only too well. Jews were dismissed from public and private office without any pension and were turned into paupers. I also remember that emigration to Palestine was reduced to a trickle by the British (now part of the Quartet) in our hour of the most dire need as a result of pressure from the Palestinian Arabs, led by the Grand Mufti, a bosom pal of Hitler, known as the Arab Revolt, and that all those thus prevented from finding refuge in Palestine went up through the chimneys of Auschwitz. They have a lot to answer for. But then the USA or anybody else didn't want us either

You are G-D's chosen people. The time will come when G-D Himself will destroy all your enemies just like happened to hitler and as in Exodus 14 and as in the book of Ester. These Jew haters of today don't learn from history so let them bear the wrath of G-D. Jews are totally innocent and has G-D's love.

As for me and my family we love Israel. G-D bless Israel and the IDF.

David Greenzweig, here's something you can do: sign up for BUYcott, and whenever a boycott is publicized in your area, respond by patronizing the threatened company

To the best of my knowledge, most boycotts have been entirely counter-productive. I know of the ones in Canada, and (for example) at the Toronto International Film Festival, tickets for the Israeli films sold out almost immediately; Mountain Equipment Coop sold vast quantities of its (rather few) Israeli products; a liquor store in Ontario (Toronto?) threatened with picketing sold out of its Israeli wines the week before the picket.

Does my heart good to hear stories like those.

Bones, I was waiting for a cartoon on this subject to come down the pike from your pencils. It is spot on! Anti-Jewish hatred and activity in any form is a cancer on our civilization.

Thanks

Dear nononsense,

Isn't Berliner Yiddish for German Jew? Why not keep Yiddish alive as best we can?

I am Northwest bred, born, and raised. That Northwest Co-ops BDS Israeli goods breaks my heart and makes me very angry. I was raised that America is a Judeo-Christian nation. I am very, very, very angry and shall raise my voice against this atrocity.
